Fundraising In Front Of Walmart: What You Need To Know

Fundraising is permitted in front of Walmart stores providing you have the permission of the store manager.

In the past, you had to apply for permission to raise funds in front of Walmart stores through their website however that is no longer possible.

Permission to fundraise outside a Walmart is at the discretion of the store manager.

In order to have the best possible chance of your request to raise funds outside a specific Walmart store being granted follow these steps:

  1. Choose your time carefully, they are likely to say no if you ask to fundraise during busy periods such as Christmas.
  2. Show proof that you are a registered charity or nonprofit organisation.
  3. Explain how the funds raised will be put to use.
  4. Explain exactly what you will do, include details on how many days you hope to be outside the door for, how many hours per day, how many people will be there and what your group will look like.

You will, of course, need to have the store manager’s contact details, you can usually find these inside the store near the customer service kiosk, if not ask for the store manager’s business card.

Ideally, you would get a face-to-face meeting or phone call with them but this will often not be possible and an email may have to do.

Whichever way you contact them remember to be courteous and thank them for their time.

Typically you will have to wait at least two weeks for a decision, so don’t apply the day before you plan to start fundraising!
