About Giant Eagle
Giant Eagle was founded in 1918 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania by three families, namely the Goldsteins, the Porters, and the Chaits. It was incorporated in 1931 after it’s acquisition of OK Groceries.
Giant Eagle remained based in western Pennsylvania until the late 1980s when it acquired Youngstown, an Ohio-based company, and its Valu-King stores that were later rebranded to Giant Eagle.
Around the mid-to-late 1990s, Giant Eagle reached Cleveland by buying the Stop-n-Shop stores in the area.
The company continued growing by building/buying stores in Indiana, West Virginia, and Maryland.
